Origin

Cloudmin is made by Cloudmin LLC, the company that also sells Virtualmin Pro and our other commercial products. Our team is behind Webmin, the world’s most popular web-based Linux and UNIX system administration tool, and Virtualmin, started by Jamie Cameron and Joe Cooper in 2005. Cloudmin was announced in 2009 as a management interface for virtual machines and cloud infrastructure, built on Webmin like the rest of our products.

History

The first Cloudmin generations managed Xen, KVM, OpenVZ, Solaris Zones and several public cloud providers through their own tooling and raw hypervisor processes. Over the years hosting providers and system administrators used it to run fleets of virtual machines and to provision Virtualmin servers at scale.

Cloudmin 10 is a rewrite of the product around libvirt. It manages QEMU/KVM through the standard Linux virtualization API instead of custom process management, keeps virtual hardware definitions where other tools can see them, and rebuilds images, jobs, consoles, snapshots, clones and backups on a shared core for the free and professional editions. Cloudmin 9 stays available for Xen users while the KVM line matures.

Facts

Cloudmin GPL is free software and manages one host with an unlimited number of virtual machines. Cloudmin Pro adds features for people who build services at scale. Both editions share one code base, one API and one command line. Virtualmin remains a separate product, with its own GPL and Pro editions. Cloudmin is developed in the open alongside Webmin and Virtualmin, and the Virtualmin community forum is where its users and developers meet.

Us

In short, we are a small team, with Eric Andreychek joining in 2008 and Ilia Rostovtsev (a.k.a. Ilia Ross) in 2014, trying to tackle really big problems in hosting and virtualization management.
